The Long Shadows of Autumn; Towards Loe Pool

Alice Hole

This is a view looking towards Loe Bar on the Degibna side of the Penrose Estate near Helston. I loved drawing the long shadows cast by the weathered, windswept trees on this cold, Autumnal day. I also enjoyed drawing the traditional 'Cornish Hedges' on either side of the path which are stone underneath but which are built to let foliage grow on top and through the cracks so that they look fully green and natural, but are immensely strong underneath. This lane forms part of the circular walk around Loe Pool. It is full of atmosphere and I'm sure has been here for many years as a way to get to the farmers' fields whilst, at the same time, having a natural breathtaking view. The Bar itself is a stretch of sand which separates Loe Pool from the sea and is surrounded by myths & legends.
