Dane's Dyke Beach, facing North
One of a pair of studies, this is a view of Dane's Dyke Beach, near Flamborough, facing North. I love the jumbled piles of chalky rocks contrasted against the swathes of dark seaweed washed up along the shore. I have tried to reproduce the larger boulders, paying attention to their shapes and colours, whilst their orientation shows how nature has arranged them and shows the slope of the ground. I have used strong colours to delineate the stones, which gives a sketchy feel to the painting, whilst pinky hues in the foreground bring warmth to the composition.
