Dane's Dyke Beach, facing South
The second of a pair of studies, this is a view of Dane's Dyke Beach, near Flamborough, facing South with Bridlington town in the distance. The dominant feature of this scene is the watery sun cradled by the line of cliffs. In this direction, large boulders are less evident. Instead we see millions of smaller stones, most shapes indistinguishable, thrown into a soft warm light. In contrast, the cliff face in the foreground is strong and imposing with its base shaped like that of a large boat.
