I aimed to capture the dappled shade of the street contrasting with the upper facades in bright sunlight. I also wanted to celebrate the colours and textures of the wet flagstones. A shaft of light strikes the mannequin, and asserts the presence of a smart boutique, which blends into the background.
A young woman rests against the fountain, legs crossed. Her body language suggests that she is checking her mobile; her shoulder bag indicates that she is just passing through. The male figure on the right is caught peering down the street, about to step onto the road. He looks less like a visitor. Two or three people dressed in shorts amble into the distance carrying bags; maybe they have been shopping. Incidental details such as the glassware and cutlery on the nearby table, the restaurant board advertising champagne, the motorbike parked against the wall and the moped give a flavour of everyday life.
