Floating Tulips
We had a vase of tulips and they eventually all decided to stretch out horizontally looking quite peculiar so I instinctively took a photo. When editing the photo there was an option called “portrait”, which I’d never come across before, and it enabled me to make the background black giving the tulips the appearance that they were just suspended in mid air. Having decided that it would be a nice subject for a painting I remembered that I had some black watercolour paper hiding in my art cupboard. Although my previous attempts at watercolour on black paper had been a struggle, I thought I’d give that it another go. Having just bought some Derwent Inktense watercolour pans I thought it would also be a good chance to try them out.
I did the initial outline sketch with Derwent Inktense pencils and then used Derwent Inktense watercolours and Daler Rowney Designer Gouache paints on Alison C Board black watercolour paper.
