Mixed Emotions
A pastel self portrait with a difference.
The initial idea was for a self portrait depicting mood swings with half of the face being very happy and the other half being very sad. Unfortunately I wasn’t very good at portraying a very gloomy face plus I soon realised that I needed to keep my mouth shut to allow a smooth joining of the 2 halves.
So the end result is a less dramatic than I’d initially envisaged. But from start to finish a very enjoyable (if frustrating) challenge.
Faber Castel pastel pencils, SAA soft pastels and pan pastels on Pastelmat paper.
