Rolling waves at St Bees
I was visiting St Bees when I read about the Waves challenge and fortunately the waves were pounding in on that day. The tide was almost fully in and although the waves weren’t big they were crashing in. I therefore took several photos and used them to construct this painting. I spent quite some time deciding what medium to use and eventually decided to use acrylics. Although I initially planned to methodically take my time and build it up, as soon as I put the first paint on the paper I decided that perhaps doing a wet on wet would give a better atmospheric result. So I quickly applied the paint - mainly straight from the tube and soon had a possible finished painting which would also have qualified for the 30 minute challenge. However once I’d let it dry and looked at again I felt it needed further work on the foreground and this took it well over the 30 minutes.
